Parks Gissinger was regarded by some as the most underrated player in Michigan State football’s 2018 recruiting class. Can he live up to that?

Coming from an extremely competitive and athletic family, Parks Gissinger was surprisingly overlooked as a recruit, ranked the No. 801 player in the 2018 class and 48th-best weak-side defensive end, but decided to commit to Michigan State from West Hills, Calif.

Gissinger was dubbed as the most underrated recruit in the Spartans’ class by some experts and they believed he was going to have an immediate impact in 2018.

Michigan State had one of the best defensive lines in the country with plenty of depth which kept Gissinger on the sideline, maintaining his redshirt. He didn’t play a single snap but it wasn’t due to his lack of talent but rather that depth.

The former three-star defensive end stands 6-foot-2 and weighs about 240 pounds and looks the part. He played against some of the best competition at the high school level and spent a season learning the defense and soaking in knowledge from guys like Kenny Willekes and Jacub Panasiuk which is only going to make him better.

No one has really been talking about Gissinger, but this could be his year. He could surprise some people this fall, realize his potential and crack the two-deep depth chart.

Don’t forget his name because he could join the fold this fall and make a name for himself. Will it be a breakout season? Probably not with the guys who are in front of him, but he’s going to be more of a known commodity in his second year with Michigan State football.
