2. MSU wins 10 games

Looking at the schedule, this doesn’t seem all that outlandish. The Spartans begin the season with three straight home games against beatable foes before heading to Evanston to face Northwestern — which is almost like another home game because Spartans travel well here.

After that, it’s Indiana at home before traveling to Ohio State and Wisconsin. Two bye weeks break up the Penn State game at home and then it’s Illinois, at Michigan, at Rutgers and then Maryland comes to town to end the season.

There are 8-9 games that Michigan State should realistically win, and remember, winning 10 games doesn’t just mean finishing the regular season 10-2, but it could mean the Spartans finished 9-3 and win their bowl game — which is what I’m predicting.

Michigan State will begin the season 5-0 after beating Tulsa, Western Michigan, Arizona State, Northwestern and Indiana before losing at Ohio State. The Spartans will drop two in a row, losing to Wisconsin, before a bye and then they’ll return home to face Penn State but that’s where a slip-up occurs. After another bye, Michigan State will be rejuvenated to beat a mediocre Illinois team and then upset Michigan on the road before beating Maryland and Rutgers.

So losses to Ohio State, Wisconsin and Penn State will leave the Spartans 9-3 and they’ll get that 10th win in the postseason to finish 10-3 for the second time in three years.
