3. Brian Lewerke passes for over 3,000 yards

Just two years ago, Brian Lewerke was the talk of the Big Ten. He had just passed for 2,793 yards and 20 touchdowns with only seven interceptions and there was a strong belief that he was about to be Michigan State’s next great gunslinger.

And then 2018 happened.

The junior quarterback went from potential early-round draft pick and top-three quarterback in the Big Ten to lacking confidence and fighting to keep his starting job. He suffered an injury early in the year and never truly looked the same — that offensive line didn’t help matters. He finished with mediocre numbers and more interceptions than touchdowns.

After watching him during the spring game, it’s evident that Lewerke got some of his swagger and a lot of his arm strength back. He surpassed 3,000 total yards in 2017 and he looked more like that guy than the one who struggled in 2018.

Lewerke will bounce back in 2019 and surpass 3,000 yards through the air, becoming the first Spartan quarterback to do so since Connor Cook. He’ll also rush for 500 more, looking like his old self.
