Michigan State Football: 10 post-spring bold predictions for 2019 season
8. Cody White finishes the season with 65 receptions
Losing Cody White for four games in the middle of the season was rough on Michigan State. The Spartan offense was reeling and it needed White around to take the pressure off Felton Davis III and Brian Lewerke, but he broke his hand on a fluke play early in the season and wasn’t around for some important games.
When he did return, he had an impact, but not enough to ensure the offense made a quick turnaround — and that’s not on him.
The quarterback situation was rough, the offensive line struggled mightily and Davis III went down with an Achilles injury, leaving No. 1 duties to White and every defense essentially focused solely on the sophomore wide out.
Still, White finished the season with 42 catches for 555 yards, but he barely scratched the surface. Assuming he remains healthy in 2019, White will finished with 65 catches for 800-plus yards and six touchdowns as a true “breakout” season for the third-year player.
