Michigan State football could soon be getting some good news from three-star wide receiver Ian Stewart as he’s trending toward the green and white.

When you think about the top prospects in the state of Michigan, you rarely think of Gibraltar Carlson as a hot spot, but Ian Stewart is putting the school on the map.

The three-star receiver is still turning heads and is sure to move up the recruiting rankings soon enough, but he’s drawing interest from some of the top schools in the Midwest, including home-state favorite Michigan State.

For a while, though, it looked like he was seriously considering Michigan and even Purdue was at the top of his list, but the Spartans have been making a late surge.

While we hate using the 247Sports Crystal Ball as a measuring stick in terms of interest, the recent trend there has been hard to overlook. The Spartans went from getting 0 percent of the votes to 62 percent in just a couple of days as a flood of picks for Michigan State have come in after the three-star wide out announced he had big news to deliver on Saturday.

Steve Wiltfong, Sean Scherer and Allen Trieu all put in picks for Michigan State and all have been reliable sources over the past few years in terms of recruiting.

Clearly something is going on and Michigan State could soon be the beneficiary of a talented wide out’s big news.

Stewart stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 200 pounds and is electric with the ball in his hands. He has played just about every position at the prep level, including quarterback, running back and receiver. He knows how to do it all and that versatility makes him even more coveted.

Michigan State is in a good place right now and all signs are pointing to him becoming a Spartan when he makes an announcement (likely a commitment) on Saturday.

Stewart is listed as the No. 564 recruit in the class and 104th-best receiver, according to the 247Sports Composite. West Virginia and Kentucky are other schools to keep an eye on, but Michigan State should feel good heading into Saturday.
