You won’t see many athletes like Julian Barnett roll through East Lansing for a while. I’m not saying Michigan State can’t recruit elite athletes but rather Barnett is a special breed and that’s just how good he is.

Coming in this summer, Barnett will have a chance to compete for snaps in the defensive backfield even though it’s absolutely loaded. He’ll likely start off on special teams, assuming Mark Dantonio wants to burn that redshirt, and he’ll work his way into the secondary rotation, even if it’s in late-game blowout situations.

Barnett will prove his worth early on and earn more snaps in the secondary and Don Treadwell may be given a green light to utilize him at receiver, too.

This kid can play both sides of the ball and do so at an elite level. He’s going to be a force to be reckoned with in the Big Ten for years and Spartan fans must enjoy him while he lasts because he won’t be in East Lansing for long.
