Michigan State has one of the best defensive lines in college football and it’ll be tough for a true freshman to come in right away and compete for early playing time.

Michael Fletcher isn’t just any incoming freshman, though.

In fact, Fletcher was a four-star recruit and the ninth-best prospect in the state of Michigan for the 2019 class. He stands 6-foot-5 and looks a little slim at 240 pounds, but he’ll have plenty of time to add some muscle before the season starts.

The Spartans could use some depth at defensive end, especially with Kenny Willekes coming off a devastating leg injury which cut his Redbox Bowl performance short and has caused him to miss spring ball, and while Fletcher likely won’t be on the two-deep to start the fall, he could play himself into an extended role.

Not many true freshmen have the size and athleticism that he has at the defensive end spot and if he stays low off the snap, he could be an instant riser up the depth chart.
