Usually Rutgers is a cakewalk for above average Big Ten teams, but the Spartans will be coming off their most heartbreaking loss of the season against Michigan.

That type of heartbreak can carry over into following weeks, but the Spartans will do a good job of putting it behind them and coming out strong against Rutgers. Michigan State will build a 21-0 lead in the second quarter, but then the offense will stall out.

Michigan State won’t be able to find the end zone for the remainder of the game and Rutgers will put within six, 27-21, with just five minutes remaining and it’ll attempt an onside kick, but to no avail as the Spartans’ hands team recovers in Scarlet Knight territory.

Working with a short field, Michigan State will milk the clock, pick up a couple of first downs and force Rutgers to waste its timeouts before kicking the game-clinching field goal with 1:30 to go.

On the ensuing Rutgers drive, it’ll throw an interception to who else but Josiah Scott who will have a chance to return it for a score, but goes down to preserve the win and give the offense a chance to line up in victory formation.

Final Score: Michigan State 30, Rutgers 21 (8-3, 5-3)
