Michigan State football made the top schools list of four-star wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad III but can it land the elite legacy recruit?

When you look at his list of offers and top eight schools, you’d think Michigan State has no chance to land four-star 2020 wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad III, but that’s what makes legacy recruits so intriguing — anything can happen.

Muhammad III’s father, Muhsin Muhammad, played at Michigan State from 1992-95 and had a quiet first three seasons with the Spartans before breaking out as a senior with 867 yards and three touchdowns on 50 catches. He grew up in Lansing, so you know he will have his son taking a serious look at the green and white.

And Muhammad III has done just that, putting Michigan State on his trimmed list of eight schools.

The rest of the teams on that list don’t exactly make you feel good about Michigan State’s chances, but do the Spartans’ stand a chance?

If I were to put a number on it, it would probably be 25 percent. Although the 247Sports Crystal Ball has the Spartans favored at 67 percent to NC State’s 33 percent, he is being pushed hard by teams like Texas A&M and nearby NC State and North Carolina — he currently lives in Charlotte, N.C.

Muhammad III officially visited Texas A&M and unofficially took a trip to North Carolina in the past month while the Spartans are still waiting for a visit, which would be huge.

Do I like the Spartans’ chances with the 6-foot-0, 185-pound four-star wide out from Charlotte whose dad played for MSU? Not necessarily, but I do think a visit would drastically change matters like it did for Darius Snow.

Muhammad III is ranked the No. 117 overall player and 25th-best receiver in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
