Could Michigan State basketball be in the market for a duo of Marquette transfers, brothers Joey and Sam Hauser?

Marquette brothers Sam and Joey Hauser both announced on Monday afternoon that they would be transferring from the program, shocking just about everyone. Even more surprising was a school that was brought up in regards to a potential transfer destination for one, or both, brothers.

According to Mark MillerWisconsin Basketball Yearbook editor, he was hearing that Michigan State and/or Virginia were potential destinations for the Hausers after their transfer news.

Miller deleted the tweet shortly after — potentially after being informed that the recruitment was wide open — but his sources were telling him those two program stood out above the rest. He then tweeted this:

Why did Michigan State come up and is it even realistic to land one, or both? Considering they’d likely have to sit out a year, there could be room for these guys, but it would cut into the available scholarships for 2020 — not ideal.

Joey Hauser was recruited heavily by Michigan State a couple of years ago before picking Marquette and he was one of the top forwards in the 2018 class.

Sam, on the other hand, was recruited heavily by Virginia and was a top-100 prospect a few years ago, now entering his final year of eligibility.

Personally, if the Spartans did land either of these brothers, it would be Joey, but I don’t think they’d want to attend different colleges — they seem like a package deal. Joey had the Spartans high on his list and he was close to picking the green and white but chose to stay close to home and play with his brother. He averaged 9.7 points and 5.3 rebounds as a freshman in 2018-19.

Don’t count on something like this to happen given the scholarship availability for the next couple of years and top targets who Tom Izzo would probably rather have take those open spots.

We may hear more rumors with the Hausers connected to Michigan State, but until they actually take visits to East Lansing, I wouldn’t give them much merit.
