3. Matt McQuaid hits game-winning 3-pointer vs. Texas Tech
One senior stepped up in the biggest moment of the season already as Kenny Goins took a pass from Xavier Tillman at the top of the arc, realized how open he was and drained a 3-pointer to give Michigan State a two-point lead with 34 seconds left.
That 3-pointer ultimately sent the Spartans to the Final Four, beating Duke in a back-and-forth battle as Goins put a poor shooting performance behind him.
Now it’s the other senior’s turn.
Matt McQuaid has made some clutch shots in the tourney so far, but he hasn’t quite had a consistent shooting game. He’s going to change that against Texas Tech.
With the game tied at 63-63 with under a minute to go, Cassius Winston will try to drive down the lane, but it’ll be closed off by Texas Tech’s stingy no-middle defense. He’ll be stopped in his tracks, but notice an open McQuaid in the corner who will catch, rise and fire for a huge three that will rival the impact of Goins’.
That three will send MSU to the national title game against Virginia.
