4. Michigan State secures tie for Big Ten regular season title

Michigan State was the only team in the conference that controlled its own destiny heading into this past weekend’s slate of games and the Spartans weren’t able to come away with a big win in Bloomington to set up a potentially huge final week of the regular season.

There’s still a chance Michigan State could be playing for a conference title this week as the Spartans host Nebraska on Tuesday night and Michigan on Saturday. Two big home games come between Michigan State and a No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.

The Spartans need some help, though.

First, either Minnesota or Northwestern have to upset Purdue which is entirely possible as the Boilermakers haven’t been great on the road this season. And second, the Spartans must win out and take care of the Cornhuskers and Wolverines.

I see Michigan State beating Nebraska and Purdue beating Northwestern, but Minnesota is going to pull off a big upset, making Saturday’s rematch with Michigan for all the marbles.

The Spartans will win on senior night in East Lansing against their archrival to tie Purdue for first place with a regular season title split.
