3. Kenny Goins is the glue this team needs

There may have been no one that put more emphasis into this rivalry game than Kenny Goins — except maybe Tom Izzo. The fifth-year senior and former walk-on has had to live this rivalry for the past half-decade and he’s seen what it has meant to the guys before him. He’s instilled that intensity into his younger teammates and led the way on Sunday.

In fact, he had one of the best games of his Spartan career, scoring 16 points with 11 rebounds and not getting into foul trouble or having turnover issues. He made big plays down the stretch, including making some huge shots and gabbing big rebounds, and continued to be the glue.

This team needs a guy like Goins to step up when injuries start to run rampant and he’s been as consistent as anyone on the team. Heck, he’s averaging 10.7 points and just under 13 rebounds over the last four games and is only gaining confidence.

It’s hard to believe this kid was a walk-on as he’s grown so much over the year’s and he’s playing at an All-Big Ten level.

Goins is that one guy on every team that just keeps everyone level-headed and makes sure the young guys are prepared. He’s the glue this team needs.
