Michigan State Basketball: 5 takeaways from mammoth win at Wisconsin
4. Kenny Goins is clutch
How many times is Kenny Goins going to come up with a big shot in crunch time? He did it against Illinois, giving the Spartans a late lead following a 13-point second-half comeback and then he hit some big shots from distance at home against Indiana.
Unfortunately, both of those clutch performances were in losing efforts, but Goins didn’t shy away from taking the biggest shot of the game on Tuesday night.
With about 35 seconds left in the game, the shot clock winding down and the Spartans up by three, Aaron Henry thought about driving the lane, didn’t see a crease and then dished it off to Kenny Goins who had a brief window to shoot after Brad Davison crashed — slightly — on the passer. The senior forward didn’t even think twice, hoisting up a 3-pointer which would essentially end the game.
And he nailed it.
That make gave the Spartans a six-point lead which was eventually extended to nine before the Spartans won by eight. That was where Kenny called game.
With Goins being able to make clutch shots down the stretch, that gives the Spartans three deep-threats in the starting lineup if the game is on the line, and that’s huge.
