2. Dave Warner will use quarterback expertise on Brian Lewerke

As mentioned in the offensive shakeups, no one may benefit from the staff shuffling more than Brian Lewerke. The soon-to-be senior quarterback had a rough 2018 season and it was due, in large part, to an injury he suffered to his shoulder. No one knows exactly, outside of Lewerke, when the injury occurred, but it clearly affected his throwing motion, strength and accuracy.

Heck, the junior even said his shoulder stung after every throw he made following the injury.

Now that he has an entire offseason to rehab that shoulder, he’s going to get some solid quarterback coaching from Dave Warner. Yes, that same Warner who everyone wanted fired after scoring just two touchdowns in the final four games. I was, too, on that bandwagon until I realized what wonders he worked as a quarterbacks coach and that’s the position he should have been in all along.

Now that Warner is back where he belongs, he can work on Lewerke and help him retool his game and get back to the basics. This can only mean good things for the third-year starter from Arizona.

If he can get a guy like Brian Hoyer to the NFL, make former two-star passer Kirk Cousins the highest-paid quarterback in the league and help mold Connor Cook, another former two-star, into the school’s all-time leading passer, imagine what he can do with a skilled Lewerke.
