4. Matt Dotson, TE

To say Matt Dotson has had a tough season would be an understatement. The sophomore tight end had major expectations before the season began and has only caught 12 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown, falling short of his goals, presumably.

Sure, he’s been more productive this season than he was as a freshman when he had just two receptions for 19 yards, but his talent level and potential made him a threat to break out in 2018. Unfortunately, he and Brian Lewerke were just never truly on the same page and that caused some lost confidence for the former four-star tight end from Ohio.

If Lewerke returns healthy, it’d be great for him to get on the same page and develop that connection with Dotson in the Redbox Bowl. If there’s any receiver/tight end who needs a strong end to a tumultuous year, it’s Dotson.

Dotson has just three catches for 32 yards since a four-reception, 48-yard performance against Purdue. Something needs to change.
