Michigan State football has signed a typical Mark Dantonio recruiting class, ranked No. 28 in the country. Let’s take a look at some signee superlatives.

The 2019 recruiting class isn’t quite closed yet since February’s National Signing Day is the final step. Michigan State football’s 2019 class is still a typical Mark Dantonio one, signing a couple of stars with a plethora of mid-to-high three-star prospects mixed in.

Michigan State whiffed on Aaron Young, which was the only surprise on Wednesday, as the three-star running back flipped to Rutgers to play with his brother.

Dantonio has the guys he wants, though, and the Spartans should be just fine moving forward as the class could afford to add a couple of guys. But since there are 18 signees, we can take a look at some early signing class superlatives.

Who was the biggest get? The biggest miss? Some superlatives may seem obvious while others could surprise you.

Biggest Get: Julian Barnett, CB

Belleville (Mich.) High was very good to Michigan State in this recruiting cycle as it was last year when Davion Williams committed. This time around, though, it was Julian Barnett that made Mark Dantonio a happy man, signing with the Spartans on Wednesday.

Though he’s the second-highest rated signee in the class, he’s the biggest get, in my opinion, because of his versatility and superstar potential.

Barnett has the ability to play both sides of the ball, like his former teammate who is also a Spartan (Williams), and he’s just an athlete who won’t be kept on the bench much in 2019. He’ll be a true freshman with one of the biggest early impacts.

Watching this kid play is a treat and we should all enjoy the time we have him in East Lansing because he’ll be a serious NFL draft prospect as a junior.

Honorable Mention: Devontae Dobbs, OT
