Michigan State’s 25 wishes list continues today and will run for the next two weeks. What is the No. 11 wish for all Spartan fans?

Here is wish No. 11 on our Michigan State fan wish list as we count down to wish No. 1.

Wish No. 11

Cody White wins the Fred Biletnikoff Award for Outstanding Receiver and Josiah Scott wins the Jim Thorpe Award for Outstanding Defensive Back.

To have the best receiver and defensive back in the entire country for 2019 would make for a magical season for the Michigan State Spartans. For those who are thinking this may be a little be outlandish, remember we are talking about wishes, not predictions. As we head closer to Wish No. 1, expected the wishes to get better in terms of wanting more than expecting. Now, let’s explain how this wish has a chance, yes a chance of coming true.

The last and only Spartan to win the Jim Thorpe Award for Outstanding Defensive back was in 2013 when Darqueze Dennard received the honor. Also, the last and only Michigan State player to win the Fred Biletnikoff Award for Outstanding Receiver was Charles Rogers, who won the award in 2002. Next season could be the year where two Spartans will win these outstanding awards.

Cody White, though he missed four games due to injury after suffering a hand injury during the first half against Central Michigan, still had an impact on the season.

Don’t forget, the Spartan passing game struggled mightily with injuries at quarterback, on the offensive line and at wide receiver, which hurt White’s numbers but he still made some key plays this season. He had a key touchdown in helping Michigan State beating Utah State in the home opener and he had the game winning touchdown against Rutgers on a 22-yard sweep play. He also had over 100 yards receiving against Arizona State and Ohio State this season.

White looks to have an outstanding performance against the Ducks in the Redbox Bowl, giving him some momentum heading into the 2019 season.

Josiah Scott had an excellent year as a freshman as evidenced by him being named to the Freshman All-American team by ESPN. However, entering this season, he was injured before the season even started. He played sparely this season, playing in only four games with the hope of possibly redshirting.

Like LJ Scott, it now appears that he will play in the bowl game and burn his redshirt. Justin Layne, the other star cornerback for the Spartans, just declared for the NFL draft and will not play in the upcoming game for Michigan State.

Scott will be the featured defensive back from here on out for the Spartans and he will look to add to his profile as he is coming off of his best game in the regular season finale where he had two interceptions including the one in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Spartans. If he can hold likely first-round pick Justin Herbert in check, it will really increase his profile heading into the 2019 season.

I put the probability of Wish No. 11 on our wish list of coming true at eight percent. Even though there is a chance of this happening, it’s highly doubtful. However, Scott and White can be on the verge of having amazing seasons in 2019 but they both have to stay healthy and they must lead Michigan State to a Big Ten title to get the recognize that they deserve with an outstanding individual season. This wish happening next season may not be likely but it does have a slight chance of coming true.
