Michigan State Basketball: 5 reasons Vernon Carey Jr. will commit
4. Michigan State got the last official visit — and two total
One school in got two official visits from the nation’s No. 2 overall recruit, and it wasn’t Duke, North Carolina or even hometown contender — which has eventually been trimmed from his list — Miami. It was Michigan State.
Yes, the Spartans were the only program to receive two official visits from the five-star big man from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and, to top it all off, he dedicated his final one to the green and white.
Not only did he visit last February for his first official, but he spent his final official on the Spartans in November. Michigan State was the last campus he got a taste of and shortly after that, he trimmed his list to three, including the Spartans.
A lot can be said about a program that gets a top recruit’s final official and it sometimes works out where that leaves a lasting impression but getting two is even more crucial.
Another thing working in favor of the Spartans? He wasn’t scared off by the snow last February and even said it was “cool” to see.
