Michigan State Basketball: 5 takeaways from blowout win over Iowa
3. Smarter Spartans are nearly unstoppable
When Michigan State is playing a smart brand of basketball, there’s no beating this team because, well, it can’t beat itself. In the Spartans’ two losses this season, turnovers played a major role as they beat themselves with sloppy play and poor decisions.
However, Iowa couldn’t even somewhat hang with Michigan State because the Spartans were smart with the ball, turning the ball over just eight times to go along with 28 assists.
Smart play, precision passes and Cassius Winston being one of the best facilitators in the country led to this blowout win and when the Spartans play this way, they’re relatively unstoppable.
Winston had 12 assists with just one turnover, showing that he can make the right decision and it led to a number of easy buckets. When he’s coughing the ball up 5-6 times in a game, the Spartans suffer, but when he cuts that to just 1-2, Michigan State is extremely difficult to beat.
