Michigan State basketball is awaiting its fate with five-star big man Vernon Carey Jr. who will be announcing his decision on Thursday.

It’s time. Let the heavy breathing and sweaty palms commence as five-star big man Vernon Carey announced he would be making his college decision on Thursday. Michigan State and Tom Izzo are still in the running and have seemingly done everything right.

Carey took a second official visit to Michigan State last month and the word on the street is that Michigan State is sitting pretty.

Recruiting expert Jake Weingarten, who is well-connected, even revealed that the five-star from Florida is narrowing his focus down to two schools: Michigan State and Duke.

The first thing that comes to mind when anyone hears those words has to be Jabari Parker. It’s a name that doesn’t often get muttered — in a good way, at least — in the homes of Michigan State fans who are still bitter he seemed like a Michigan State lean and chose Duke because “Branden Dawson plays the same position.”

This one feels slightly different, though. Sure, he could still pick Duke and it wouldn’t be all that shocking, but the trend seems to be in Michigan State’s favor.

Not only are some well-connected recruiting experts leaning toward the Spartans, but Jaren Jackson Jr. has been in the big man’s ear as his “unofficial recruiter” steering him toward East Lansing and Izzo.

And if there was ever any doubt about Rocket Watts signing with Michigan State in the spring, this tweet from the talented guard to Carey before his decision should speak volumes.

There are many things working in the Spartans’ favor, including getting the final official visit and trimming his list to two, reportedly.
