2. Nebraska’s defense is mediocre, at best

This is music to Michigan State’s ears. The Cornhuskers have one of the worst passing defenses in the country, allowing 255 yards per game through the air.

Against any quarterback in conference play with a pulse, the Cornhuskers have struggled. Steven Montez of Colorado passed for 351 yards and three scores, David Blough had 328 yards and a touchdown, Clayton Thorson had 455 yards and three touchdowns, Dwayne Haskins had 250 yards and two touchdowns and, well, Nebraska gave up 35 points to Illinois — that says it all.

While the passing defense has been bad, the run defense has been just as poor, if not worse. The Cornhuskers allow nearly 200 yards rushing per game and they allow about 34 points per game.

This team just doesn’t have anything going for them on the defensive side of the ball and that could give this struggling Michigan State offense a chance to gain some confidence.
