1. Defense holds ULM under 60 points, covers 25-point spread

If there’s one thing that should make the Spartans feel good about Wednesday night’s matchup, it’s the fact that the Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe aren’t known for their offense.

In fact, ULM is averaging 75 points per game and is coming off a 55-point performance against Texas. The Warhawks did put up a good fight against the Longhorns, but were unable to hang in the second half.

Michigan State’s defense has been mediocre this season, allowing an average of 87 points per game. That’s not going to bring this team any titles and Tom Izzo even touched on that in his post-game interview, stating that his Spartans can’t guard anybody right now. That’s all fine and dandy against the No. 1 team in the first game of the season, but that must not continue.

Allowing 82 points against Florida Gulf Coast had to be a wakeup call for this team and Izzo said he’d be bringing out the football pads in practice to toughen up his guys.

That’ll pay off as Michigan State holds the Warhawks to under 60 points in back-to-back games.
