2. Brian Lewerke will get his swagger back

Though he didn’t quite have his normal swagger in last year’s Michigan game, his most memorable performance back from his first season in 2016 was a near-comeback engineered by the then-redshirt freshman against the Wolverines.

The last time he faced Michigan’s vaunted defense in East Lansing, he torched the Wolverines for over 100 yards in just about a quarter of action and nearly led the Spartans back from the brink of death.

Lewerke hasn’t forgotten.

He also hasn’t forgotten what has earned him the starting job. He has a swagger about him that we haven’t seen since the second half of the Washington State game last bowl season. We saw flashes of it against Utah State and Arizona State, but never quite at the same level.

It won’t take much for him to gain some confidence and swagger as he’ll showcase his running ability a bit more against the Wolverines which will lead to a more fluid passing attack. With increased confidence comes improved play.

We’ll finally see the old Lewerke.
