5. Stake game (2014)

Michigan players came out of the tunnel with confidence. It was something the Wolverines weren’t exactly known for in the final season of Brady Hoke. They were just 3-4 and didn’t look to have much of a chance, but the Wolverines tried to reverse the “chip” to their shoulders.

Coming out of the tunnel, Michigan players were carrying a railroad stake and planted into the Spartan Stadium turf.

Mark Dantonio took exception to that move.

Michigan State mounted a 28-3 lead, smacking the Wolverines around with relative ease and making life difficult on Devin Gardner for a second straight season.

Leading 28-11 with just about 30 seconds left, Dantonio decided to tack on one final touchdown, putting a “stake” in the hearts of the Wolverines, as he put it.

After the game, Hoke muttered that he had no idea his players were planning such a move and he wouldn’t have OK’d it if he did know. Sure thing.
