Michigan State Football: 5 reasons Spartans will beat Northwestern in Week 6
3. Brian Lewerke has the recipe for carving up Northwestern
Brian Lewerke hasn’t had the most consistent start to his junior season, but when you try to do too much as a quarterback, things can fall apart behind you and turnovers will be aplenty.
However, he’s had a couple of decent showings against the Wildcats and after an up-and-down performance against Northwestern in his first career start, he made adjustments in 2017, throwing for 445 yards and four touchdowns while completing about 68 percent of his throws. He looked like a completely improved passer and he has the recipe for carving up this defense.
The Wildcats allow nearly 240 yards per game through the air and Lewerke will take advantage of the pedestrian secondary, passing for over 300 yards again.
This could be a game we finally see the coaching staff let him air it out and the offensive line give him plenty of time in the pocket.
Can Lewerke pass for over 400 yards against this defense again? The staff hopes he doesn’t need to, but it’s entirely possible, given how accurate he is on Saturday afternoon.
