3. Running backs have been disappointing

This may be one of the most misguided overreactions out there. I’ve heard people knock LJ Scott and Connor Heyward, but let’s take a look at the offensive line and the lack of running lanes before dubbing the running backs ‘disappointing’.

Michigan State has a talented backfield, believe it or not. The Spartans have four or five guys who could contribute on many Power Five squads.

Of course, Scott leads the way, but he has yet to truly remain healthy through five weeks. He could come back and look like his freshman-year self or he could just struggle to gain momentum this season because of the injury bug. He still has the talent and potential to be a true workhorse.

Heyward is the downhill rusher and he could break off a big run at any moment. He’s a nice complement to the shifty Scott.

La’Darius Jefferson is a rising star. The former Muskegon (Mich.) quarterback has transitioned to running back nicely and he could be the next starter when Scott graduates.

Lastly, Weston Bridges looked great against Central Michigan in limited snaps and could be a dark-horse contender to earn some carries. The talent is there, so let’s talk about the line not doing it any favors.
