Michigan State Football: 5 things we’d like to see from Spartans in October
4. Offensive line improvement
This one is the most obvious of them all. Michigan State’s offensive line has been slightly better than below average through the first four games, and the only reason it wouldn’t be considered the worst in the conference is because it’s done a decent job protecting Brian Lewerke.
With four returning starters, you’d think the line would be one of the best and most formidable in the country, but that’s been far from the case.
Michigan State is averaging just 3.3 yards per rush and there has been little to no running room for LJ Scott, Connor Heyward, La’Darius Jefferson and Weston Bridges. Even on designed run plays for Lewerke, he’s getting nowhere near the yardage he had a season ago.
We would like to see this line improve tenfold and lead a viable run game with some lanes to run through.
It starts with getting healthier — Kevin Jarvis and Cole Chewins — while getting others back to their usual positions — Tyler Higby and Luke Campbell.
