The secondary may not be looked at as one of the best in college football, but this group, believe it or not, has been improving by the week.

After a rough opener against an explosive Utah State team, the Spartans have gotten better each week. They held Manny Wilkins and N’Keal Harry in check until the fourth quarter in Week 2, kept the big play away from Peyton Ramsey in Week 4 and shut down Tommy Lazzaro, for the most part, in Week 5.

Still, the secondary is allowing about 288 yards per game through the air on 6.7 yards per attempt.

That’ll improve in October, even against Trace McSorley, Clayton Thorson, Shea Patterson and David Blough. Four formidable quarterbacks on the docket, but Michigan State’s defense is gaining confidence and they’ll hold them to under 200 yards in each game.

The Spartans will allow less than 200 yards per game, on average, through the air in the month of October, snatching six more interceptions as well.
