Yes, I’m crazy enough to predict a 4-0 record for Michigan State in October, and I’ll tell you why.

Mark Dantonio has followed the same path in each of his 11 seasons, minus 2016, and no one should be surprised by now. Everyone is already counting Michigan State out against Penn State and Michigan, but even after slow starts each year, the Spartans rise to the occasion when major Big Ten matchups arise.

Michigan State beat Penn State on a last-second field goal last year and will make it two wins in a row against the Nittany Lions. The Spartans will come away with another win thanks to a score in the last couple of minutes — Brian Lewerke to Felton Davis III — against Penn State and they’ll take Michigan down to the final minutes as well.

The Michigan game will be another instant classic, but a field goal by Matt Coghlin will be the decider. Michigan State will have all the momentum in the world heading into November with a 7-1 record.

Could this team truly contend with Ohio State for a Big Ten East crown? Wins over Michigan and Penn State will help.
