Cody White reportedly has a broken hand, according to Mark Dantonio. Who will replace Michigan State football’s clear No. 2 receiver moving forward?

As Cody White stretched out for a pass in the end zone near the end of the first half, it looked like a casual incompletion, but the sophomore wide out remained down for a few seconds, getting up and holding his hand.

It wasn’t a good look for the second-year wide out from Walled Lake, Mich., and he didn’t return in the second half. Many thought it may have been a precautionary measure, the receiving corps were depleted on Saturday afternoon for Brian Lewerke and he could have used one of his favorite targets. He was held out for good reason.

Unfortunately, White will be out for the foreseeable future, but he’ll return at some point this season, according to Mark Dantonio.

With White breaking his hand, the Spartans will have to replace 18 catches for 260 yards and two touchdowns, which won’t be easy. Even though Michigan State had plenty of depth at the position heading into the year, we saw what the corps look like with injuries taking over.

Who can the Spartans turn to with the future NFL wide out sidelined?

Though he was injured on Saturday as well, Darrell Stewart Jr. should be the clear No. 2 option. Jalen Nailor, another absence on against the Chippewas, will be the third option while receiver No. 4 could be up in the air. Cam Chambers didn’t dress against Central, but he’d be a solid option along with Laress Nelson. You can’t count out a guy like C.J. Hayes, either.

There’s depth in the receiving corps, but this loss of White is a big one.

Maybe this will force Lewerke to hit his tight ends more often. The group had just one total catch against the Chippewas. This could force the Spartan offense to become more creative.
