2. Brian Lewerke will have his best game of the year

If there was ever a game to get some confidence back in the quarterback, it’s this one against Central Michigan in East Lansing.

Central had a surprisingly successful secondary a season ago, but Archie Collins, who helped engineer the unit as the defensive backs coach, accepted a job with Pat Narduzzi and Pitt this offseason. The Chippewas have surrendered just 140 yards per game through the air this season, but they also haven’t played any teams with a true passing attack.

Basically, the Chips haven’t seen a quarterback quite like Brian Lewerke and it’ll be one heck of a wake-up call for the visitors from the MAC.

The junior quarterback is going to bounce back from his inaccurate showing against Indiana with a near-300-yard day to go along with three touchdowns and no interceptions. On top of that, he’ll complete about 75 percent of his passes and pick up another 30-40 on the ground.

This defense won’t have an answer for Lewerke as he’ll be toying with the Chippewas all afternoon long, gaining some confidence before Big Ten play resumes in Week 6.
