Michigan State Football: 5 reasons Spartans will handle Central Michigan
4. Central’s lack of experience at quarterback
Going from Tony Poljan to Tommy Lazzaro, the Chippewas have shown they’re in panic mode at the quarterback position.
No, Poljan — a former Spartan recruit from Lansing — wasn’t exactly the most effective passer, but Central may have pulled the trigger on benching him too soon. He was completing 57 percent of his passes, but he had four interceptions to just one touchdown. He had started just three games in his young career and the staff showed they weren’t ready for him to be QB1.
Lazzaro had a poor game in his first start against Maine, completing just 7-of-16 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown with one interception. He looked shaky, to say the least, and Maine isn’t exactly one of college football’s elite teams — heck, the Black Bears aren’t even in the FBS.
The lack of experience as well as proven ability under center will doom the Chippewas as they try to move the ball against this Spartan defense. It’ll be a long day for Lazzaro, and I’d bet Poljan gets some snaps, too.
