4. Spartans pick off Central quarterbacks three times

The secondary has been the focus of attention through the first three games of the year, and that’s not necessarily a good thing. While this group hasn’t been burned deep at all, it has been surrendering 5-10 yard passes which gas the entire defense and set up long drives for opposing offenses.

Central Michigan won’t be able to effectively follow that recipe against the Spartans on Saturday as junior quarterback Tommy Lazzaro, replacing Tony Poljan, doesn’t exactly have the best accuracy under center.

Couple that inaccuracy with the fact he struggled through the air against Maine — 7-for-16 with 82 yards and a touchdown — and you’ll realize this secondary has a chance to get back on track. Lazzaro is a mistake-riddled quarterback and that’ll bite him hard against Michigan State.

The Spartans will pick him off three times — one by Justin Layne, one by Khari Willis and the other by David Dowell. It’ll be a nice comeback game for this unit after a rough start to the year.
