4. Spartans record three interceptions

The secondary has been knocked, and deservedly so, through the first two games of the season as it has allowed a staggering 350 yards per game in the air. If that’s not a concerning statistic, I don’t know what is.

Sure, Josiah Scott has been out and the cornerbacks, namely Justin Layne, have played well, but the safeties have dropped the ball and the coaching staff isn’t allowing their guys to step up to precent the short dinks and dunks teams constantly burn the Spartans with.

While Peyton Ramsey will still follow that trend that’s been working against Michigan State, the Spartans will make him pay a few times as David Dowell (twice) and Justin Layne each record interceptions.

On the year, the Spartans have three interceptions and they’re going to match that against the Hoosiers. One will come on a tipped pass right into Dowell’s hands while the other two will be heads-up plays by the defense, jumping routes and taking the ball the other way.

This should make the coaching staff feel better about the secondary.
