Michigan State football is getting ready to take on Indiana in a big Week 4 bout, but can the Spartans avoid a major upset?

Anyone who remembers the 2016 season knows that the Indiana game was arguably where things took a turn for the worst. Sure, the loss to Wisconsin was rough, but the defeat at Indiana to drop completely from the rankings was where Michigan State couldn’t stop the skid.

For the Spartans to avoid just that in 2018, they need to come out with intensity and focus and just take care of business like everyone expects them to do.

Michigan State has the players, the depth and the experience to take this game in Bloomington, but the Hoosiers seem to always give the Spartans a tough time.

The battle for the Old Brass Spittoon this time around could be a heated one, but the Spartans have some players who could make a major difference.

Michigan State needs a win on Saturday and these five guys could make that possible.

After watching the safety play against Arizona State, it was obvious the Spartans needed help back there and Xavier Henderson is a guy who could impact the defensive backfield immediately.

Impressing in fall camp as a true freshman, Henderson earned some early playing time against Utah State, recording just a single tackle. He could find his way into the rotation on Saturday night to help prevent the short dinks and dunks with which Peyton Ramsey will inevitably try to burn the Spartans.

Henderson already looks like a collegiate safety, beefed up from his high school days, and he could play a little nickel as well. He’s one of those rare college-ready freshmen who could become an integral piece of the defensive puzzle.

Could he get his first career interception Saturday? I’ll call it right now: yes.
