Michigan State football: Mark Dantonio shows once again that he’s all class
Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio is the epitome of class and he showed that last winter by sending a video to the Old Brass Spittoon creator.
If you’ve talked to anyone who knows Mark Dantonio personally or who has met him, they usually echo the same sentiment about the Michigan State head coach: he’s all class.

Dantonio does things behind the scenes without asking for any attention and that’s something that fans absolutely love. He’s a high-character guy who doesn’t ask for any praise or really much of anything yet goes about his business the same way.
Speaking of doing something behind the scenes and not asking for credit or extra attention, he sent a personalized video to the creator of the Old Brass Spittoon, Eugene McDermott, who was going through some health issues last December.
The reaction of McDermott was priceless as it brought him to tears. Just watch:
McDermott was Michigan State’s class president back in 1950 when the Spittoon was brought to life and he came up with the idea to award it to the winner of the MSU-Indiana game. Since then, Michigan State leads the all-time series 45-15-2.
The fact that Dantonio knew the history of the Spittoon and was familiar with McDermott shows just what kind of coach, and man, he truly is.
Yes, Dantonio is a busy man who doesn’t have time to send personalized messages to everyone, but he takes the time to do it as much as he can. The common fan wouldn’t think the creator of the Old Brass Spittoon — one of college football’s most random rivalry trophies — is all that important, but to Dantonio, he means a lot.
