4. Get Brian Lewerke and tight ends on the same page

This one has been in the back of my mind for the first couple of weeks and it’s something that no one seems to be talking about but is a bigger deal than people realize: Brian Lewerke and the tight ends are not on the same page.

You might be thinking, “Sure, but the receivers are playing well, so who needs tight ends?”

There’s an old saying about tight ends being a quarterback’s best friends and that’s 100 percent accurate, especially when the run game is struggling.

Through two weeks, Lewerke has overthrown both Matt Dotson and Matt Sokol as both have been blanked from the stat sheet. It’s time to get these two sides on the same page so Lewerke can hit his ends over the middle and it’ll take pressure off him in the red zone as well.

Imagine if he and his tight ends were on the same page against both Utah State and Arizona State. The Spartans wouldn’t have nearly the same red-zone struggles.

Let’s get these two sides clicking.
