Michigan State football has two No. 1 receivers on its roster and the future is extremely bright in East Lansing. Cody White is a star in the making.

On most other rosters, Cody White would be “the guy”. The sophomore wide out from Walled Lake (Mich.) Western has been a monster for the Spartans through two weeks, but he still doesn’t get the attention he deserves behind a guy like Felton Davis III with NFL potential.

White was a major bright spot against Arizona State, hauling in nine passes for 113 yards and a score, including a huge 31-yarder in the third quarter, the game’s first touchdown.

Now two games in, White has 14 catches for 183 yards and two touchdowns, well on the pace to break his numbers from last year and even reach the 1,000-yard mark. Hard to believe he’s the No. 2 option for the Spartans.

Brian Lewerke has worked hard all offseason to develop a strong connection with his receivers, most notably his top three of Davis III, White and Darrell Stewart Jr. It’s shown through two games as the trio has been virtually unstoppable and Lewerke’s numbers have flourished, for the most part.

For most programs, losing a guy like Davis III in the coming offseason would spell doom for the offense. Replacing a receiver of his caliber is next to impossible, but the Spartans are in luck.

White happens to possess that true No. 1 receiver potential and some would argue he’s No. 1B to Davis III’s No. 1A.

Michigan State is fortunate to have one of the best tandems, and trios, of receivers in the nation and White is going to be an absolute superstar for years to come.

The sophomore is one of those calm, cool and collected wide outs who can make the most difficult catches look route and has excellent balance and high-points the ball. He reminds me a lot of Aaron Burbridge and his ceiling may be much higher.
