2. Brian Lewerke played an awful game

The first time I read someone saying this on Twitter, I thought it was a troll job. Digging deeper, I found multiple fans reiterating this notion. There are some who believe that Brian Lewerke actually played a terrible game for the Spartans and some blamed him for the loss.

While it’s normal to blame the most important position on the team for a tough loss in which the offense scores just 13 points, but Lewerke was arguably the only reason the Spartans had the lead late in the game and he played a great game with no help from the run game or his offensive line.

It’s not easy to make plays when defenders are in your face before you can even say hike, but Lewerke made some great throws on the run and with Sun Devils players breathing down his neck.

Lewerke’s lone interception was a tipped ball on a pass just out of the comfortable reach of Matt Dotson, so he can get the blame for that one. It could have been seven points for the Spartans right before half, but mistakes happen.

No quarterback is perfect, but Lewerke shouldn’t be catching the heat he has been after completing about 70 percent of his throws for 314 yards and a score.
