2. Brian Lewerke has been pinned as the scapegoat

It’s already happening. Fans have disregarded the fact that the offensive line was forcing him to make plays on the run and the defense didn’t do him many favors with field position.

Moreover, the run game didn’t take any pressure off him. He made sharp plays all game long, hitting his receivers on the run with strong throws, slinging balls between heads of a need for completions and even making one incredible decision on an option play which set the Spartans up on a first and goal.

Sure, Lewerke made some poor throws, such as the interception in the first half which cost the team a touchdown, but people are quick to blame him for the loss and have already been spouting out nonsense such as ‘he hasn’t taken that next step’ in year two.

Interesting, seeing as his completion rate is up 10 percent from last year and he’s averaging 300 yards per game through the air.

It’s time to lay off the junior who kept the Spartans in the game against the Sun Devils with no blocking in front of him and no run game behind him.
