3. Herm Edwards will get “welcome to college football” moment

There’s no doubt about it, Herm Edwards is a proven coach with plenty of knowledge, but most of that comes at the NFL level.

Sure, the NFL is the highest level of coaching but there’s nothing like playing a ranked opponent under the lights to give you that ‘welcome to college football’ moment.

Edwards’ team looked great in the season opener, getting his tenure off to a hot start with a 49-7 win. It was an impressive victory against a team that made a bowl game a season ago, but UTSA clearly isn’t the same caliber of team as Michigan State.

Getting his first tough matchup at the collegiate level against the No. 15 Spartans under the lights in a raucous environment will be an eye-opening experience for the veteran head coach and that could lead to some mistakes.

Mark Dantonio, on the other hand, thrives in these types of situations.
