  • Two-time First-Team All-Big Ten (2013-14)
  • Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year (2014)
  • First-Team All-American (2014)
  • Tied for seventh in MSU history for interceptions (12)

Could Kurtis Drummond be considered the most overlooked defensive back in the Mark Dantonio era? Not for me.

The former safety was an absolute stud for the Spartans from 2011-14, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors twice as well as being named the Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year. Some also forget he was named an All-American while leading the Spartans to Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl wins and engineering the ‘No Fly Zone’.

Defensive backs aren’t exactly known for racking up big-time tackles, but Drummond finished his career with 233 — he wasn’t afraid to step up against the run and hit ball-carriers. He also had 14 tackles for loss and is tied for seventh in school history with 12 interceptions.

Drummond certainly doesn’t get enough loved compared to a couple of other defensive backs in the Dantonio era, but he proved himself as one of the best.

The ball-hawk led one of the most successful defensive eras in Michigan State history.
