Michigan State basketball’s top 2020 target may have been revealed as Tom Izzo and the Spartans have offered five-star Isaiah Jackson.

It all starts with an offer. Even before Isaiah Jackson received an offer from Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball on Thursday, the five-star power forward from Old Redford Academy in Detroit, Mich., had been on the Spartans’ radar.

After receiving that offer from Michigan State, Jackson has gone from on the radar to the top of the wish list.

Some may wonder why it took so long for Michigan State to offer the in-state prospect who clearly has interest in the program, but he’s only the fourth 2020 recruit to get an offer from Izzo, according to 247Sports. Sure, he could have gotten an offer earlier, but Izzo is more focused on landing his first 2019 pledge.

The 2020 class is also sitting at zero commits, but Jackson could be a favorite to choose the green and white first, and Izzo should value this recruitment more than any other in the cycle.

Jackson is a local kid who could act as a domino for the 2020 class. He’s listed as the No. 17 player in the country as well as third-best power forward and No. 1 recruit in the state of Michigan, according to 247Sports. His offer should rise to the top of the list though it looks like Louisville, Arizona and Michigan are also making a push — he holds over a dozen other offers.

Standing 6-foot-9 and weighing 190 pounds, Jackson, like most high school recruits, needs to add some good weight, but his game is intriguing.

Jackson is cut from the same cloth as Jaren Jackson Jr. and Marcus Bingham Jr. — a lanky big who runs the floor well, throws down with authority and can block shots at a high clip.

The high school junior is one of the top players in the country right in the Spartans’ backyard. He must jump to the top of Izzo’s wish list.
