2. Mark Dantonio becomes winningest coach in program history

All Mark Dantonio needs is 10 wins. Yes, 10 wins stand between the 11th-year head coach and the No. 1 spot in Michigan State history. That seems like a crazy accomplishment for the coach who has been in East Lansing since 2017.

Surpassing all head coaches in terms of wins in school history is a big deal, and he’ll do just that. While that may not seem bold, I’ll go one step further and say that he’ll break the school’s all-time mark in the regular season, maybe even in the 11th game of the year.

Dantonio is 100-45 in his 11 years as head coach which has far exceeded expectations when he was hired back in 2007 to replace John L. Smith.

Michigan State was one of the laughing stocks of the Big Ten before he came along, topping out at around 5-6 wins per year. The culture has changed in East Lansing and that’s all thanks to the oft-serious head coach.

If I told you 11 years ago that Dantonio would lead the program to 100 wins by the 2018 season, you’d think I was crazy. What’s even crazier is that he’s about to be the all-time winningest coach during the 2018 regular season.
