4. Toughest games at home

While this isn’t necessarily a reason to dub one team “better” than the other, this will surely affect the two sides’ records. This is more so a reason Michigan State will have the “better” season on top of having the better team.

The Spartans have their toughest games in 2018 in East Lansing and that’s going to aid that overall record.

First, there’s Northwestern at the beginning of October. This was one of the Spartans’ losses a season ago and the Wildcats bring back plenty of key players to a team that finished the year ranked.

Two weeks after that, these Wolverines come to town and then three weeks later, it’ll be Ohio State making the trip to East Lansing.

Having these two rivalry games along with Northwestern at home will give Michigan State an advantage, especially in the head-to-head battle against Michigan.

As for Michigan, the Wolverines have a multitude of tough games away from Ann Arbor, including Notre Dame, Michigan State Ohio State and Northwestern. That’s four losable games right there and you add in Penn State and Wisconsin at home and the Wolverines will be fortunate to win 4/6 of those.
