5. LJ Scott’s emergence

How can you not like the Spartans’ chances when LJ Scott seems to be turning a new leaf by becoming more of a vocal leader on and off the field?

For three years, Scott was more of a behind-the-scenes type of player who didn’t show much emotion and who had to split carries with Madre London and Gerald Holmes. Now, as a senior, the backfield is his and that means all the carries he can handle will be coming his way.

If the Spartans can get 1,000-plus yards out of Scott this season like he’s capable of putting up, Michigan State will be right up there with the top offenses in the country.

Emerging as one of college football’s best backs will add another element to the offense that Big Ten defenses may not be ready to account for. Imagine trying to stop him as well as an all-conference quarterback who can also run with the ball and who isn’t afraid to air it out.

Scott will take plenty of pressure off the offense, especially if he can hold onto the ball.
