At Big Ten Media Days, all eyes were on Michigan State football star LJ Scott as he was asked about the Michigan rivalry. His responses added fuel to the fire.

Michigan State captains and leaders from the past decade-plus have all had one thing in common — they all hate Michigan. If LJ Scott’s words at 2018 Big Ten Media Days are any indication, the upcoming edition of the rivalry could be the most heated yet.

However, Mike Hart opened the door for Scott’s trash talk. A decade ago, the former Michigan running back took a jab at Mark Dantonio’s first Spartan team, stating that the Wolverines let “little brother” take the lead before coming back to finish the job. Sometimes you let “little brother” think they can win, he said.

Ten years later, Scott had his turn to talk about the rivalry, and used a similar jab at the Wolverines.

Scott was asked why the Spartans seemingly never get respect from their in-state rivals and he had some harsh words for the Wolverines, notably calling them “little sister”.

Many Spartan fans cringed at this because it provided flashbacks to the Hart comments, but this seemed different. Scott seemed frustrated with the rivalry, specifically the fact that the Wolverines don’t give the Spartans credit despite the fact that they’ve won 8-of-10 in the series.

Yes, this will be used as bulletin board material for Michigan, but it’s not anything the players haven’t heard from Spartan fans — Scott spoke for the fan base with those comments.

This also added fuel to the rivalry and it shows just how much Scott takes this game seriously and how the hatred of the rival has been instilled in him by his former teammates.

Scott is the perfect leader to instill this hatred to his younger peers.

It may be the middle of summer, but Scott and the Spartans don’t take any days off in this rivalry, and that’s exactly what fans want to see.
