This one may come as a bit of a surprise seeing as he was just on Ohio State’s campus this past weekend and was offered by the Buckeyes, but some believe that offer may have been to push Dwan Mathis to flip — it worked.

There’s a slim chance the Buckeyes take two quarterbacks in the 2019 class, so Ohio State is no longer seriously in the race for Brian Maurer, a three-star out of Ocala, Fla.

Instead, he could look to get even with Ohio State and flirt with the Spartans, assuming they extend an offer, even scheduling a visit to East Lansing this fall. He was offered by the Buckeyes but they showed more interest in landing Mathis, and he had to realize that.

West Virginia and Tennessee look to be the new leaders in his recruitment and he’s a heavily sought-after Elite 11 quarterback. He’s ranked the No. 491 overall prospect in the class and 18th-best pro-style quarterback.
