Michigan State Football Recruiting: Top 5 quarterback targets in 2019 class
One of the newer names on the radar is Sam Saxton, a three-star quarterback from Austin, Texas. No, Michigan State has yet to offer him, but that could be coming in the near future, at least he may hope, according to a recent tweet from a Spartan recruiting beat writer.
Sean Scherer, Michigan State’s 247Sports recruiting writer, posted this, linking his VIP article, on Twitter Monday afternoon. It looks like Saxton is showing some interest in the green and white.
Saxton has Michigan State listed as one of the teams showing interest on 247Sports, but he only holds one Power Five offer: Rutgers. Although his offer sheet isn’t overly impressive, he has decent size at 6-foot-5 and a slim 190 pounds. If he adds some muscle, he’ll be the ideal size under center in the pro-style offense.
The senior quarterback passed for 2,151 yards, 30 touchdowns and just three interceptions as a junior in 2017 and that shows he doesn’t make many mistakes.
Calm in the pocket, poise oozing out of his pores and the ability to drop the ball right in his receiver’s arms along the sideline, Saxton has what it takes to excel in Michigan State’s offense. He’s ranked the No. 662 player in the class and 20th-best pro-style gunslinger.
